Mindfulness and Relaxation

What is Mindfulness?  

“Mindfulness is awareness that arises through paying attention, on purpose, in the present moment, non-judgmentally,”   -Jon Kabat-Zinn

So what does that mean exactly?

Mindfulness is about paying attention to what is in front of you in the present moment as it is happening. Often people who feel anxious, depressed, stressed, etc. are focusing a lot on things in the past that they cannot change or things in the future that they worry might happen. All of these are things that are out of our control and can lead us to feel badly.

So how do I do it?

The good news is, mindfulness practices can be easily incorporated into your daily life! To help with this, Dr. Dixie Turner will be posting “Mindfulness Moments” on the GCSU Counseling Services Facebook page for you to follow throughout the semester!  Many of these resources are archived here (see the links below).
